Important Brake Maintenance Tips

One of the things we take for granted in this world is driving a car.It has become almost like a routine and a mindless activity for some people. You see people everywhere taking on the phone, reading, even doing makeup, etc. while driving.

But if your put some thought into it, you will realize that your life is on the line everytime you step into a car.  Whether it is someone else’s fault or yours, accidents do happen.

One cause of accidents, although seldom does it happen, is brakes failing.Your brakes qualifies as one of the critical parts of your vehicle.  Unfortunately, out of sight is out of mind.  I have seen this firsthand with my San Diego brakes shop.

Your brakes definitely qualifies as out of sight.  But it is one part of your car that you need to keep regular maintenance on.  Whether you do it yourself, or hire a San Diego auto repair shop, you have to maintain it.After all, the safety of your life and maybe your family’s life could depend on it.

With that being the case, it will be relatively easy to maintain your brakes.  You can either go to a brake repair shop or you can learn how to do it yourself.

Either way, the two things to look at for brake maintenance is brake fluid level and brake pad condition. If you follow these two points vigilantly, you will ensure your brakes are safe.

When you go to check the brake fluid level, all you are going to have to do is check the fluid reservoir level.  It is usually marked and has a ‘min’ line and a ‘max’ line.  Make sure it isn’t below the ‘min’ line and you should have no problems.

Also make sure the brake fluid is clear or yellow in color. If it isn’t, you will have to perform a flushing of the brakes and put in new fluid.

Brake fluids are easy to maintain. The difficult part is maintaining your brake pads.  For this, more often than not you will need a brakes repair company like my San Diego brake shop.

Usually the brake pads tell you they need to be replaced when you hear some screeching sounds when you are braking.

If so, have them checked and replaced as soon as possible. Worn brake pads make it difficult to control to a stop.

With your safety and any passengers safety on the line, this is a no brainer. Get it checked and if you have to, go and get your brakes fixed.

Taking and following these 2 maintenance tips will help make sure your car is safe for all driving occasions.

Safety First with Brakes

There are parts to your car that you need to keep aware of. In today’s times when autos have everything automatically, most of the times your cars maintenance gets neglected.  Believe me I have seen it all owning a San Diego auto repair shop.

After all, with cars that used to be cheap cars, like Hyundai’s being state of the art driving machines, it is easy to think nothing can go wrong with them.

That is a huge mistake.  There are aspects of maintaining your car that still needs to be paid attention to.  Most people take care of oil changes and things like that.  Although that is vital for the life of your automobile, most people forget their brakes.  Which is of extreme importance to their life and their family’s lives.

So let’s find out how to know when it is time to change your brakes when they have become unsafe.

The first symptom is when there is grinding or scratching you need to replace your brakes.  Usually this is a sign of the metal plates being gone that are supposed to hold the brake pads and now it rubs against the rotor.  This is not a good sign and you want to have your brakes replaced as soon as possible.

Second thing you can look for is high pitch noises your brakes make or a loud screeching.  A condition called glazed is what causes this.  This occurs when someone always brakes too much and casues the rotors to heat up.  The rotors are then burned.

You fix this by going to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop.

A third problem is vibrations.  If your drums and rotors are warped, there will be a vibration when you brake. This happens when their is too much heat and this causesthem to lose their shape.  If this occurs, you have to replace your rotor.

A final issue to examine is when your brakes are pullling.  When you are braking, what will happen is your vehicle is pulled in one direction.  This occurs when the brake calipers are not being applied evenly.  This is caused by a fluid leak.  To determine which side the leak is coming from, a brake professional needs to take a look.  You can fix this by removing the air out of the brakes and replacing the caliper.

These are the regular issues that happen with brakes.  When this does happen you need a shop that fixes brakes like we fix San Diego brakes.

When you consider your brakes are what prevents you from having accidents and running into things, this is a part of your car’s maintenance, you never want to neglect.
