How to save money through vehicle maintenance

The economy we are faced with we need all the ways possible to save money. It won’t take a lot for you to see that a lot of Americans are having a hard time in this economy.  But instead of complaining about everything, we can find ways to save money.

So I would like to offer some perspective from a San Diego auto repair owner.  Now you might think I am biased but hear me out. After your reading of this you are going to see that it is sensible and money will be saved.

One of the ways we can save money is to keep our cars longer. In the heyday of this decade when the economy seemed to be so good people traded in cars left and right. They traded in the cars when they got old.So for the most part people just did not even think about having to maintain their car.

Well in the economy we are in that is not a luxury anymore.  Most people can’t afford to just go out and get a new car.  People have to keep their old ones. What it means is you will have to make an effort to maintain their cars.

One of the important maintenance things you can do is be sure you can pass a smog test.Once you have an older car it will be a required law.If you can’t pass the smog test that may cause very expensive repairs.  I know this first hand running my smog test San Diego shop.

There are some things you are able to do to help make certain you pass the test.  You can always keep your car tuned up.You can make certain you change the oil filter and oil.  You can make sure the muffler is in good working order.

This is the area where you may lose some money. If you are unable to pass the smog check you might be in for some expensive repairs.  So by making sure you follow these maintenance procedures so you can save money.By putting in the time and effort in maintenance now will cause you to not have to spend on big repairs later.

Don’t forget to also maintain your brakes.  With my experience with our San Diego brake shop this is important as well. By just making sure your brake pads aren’t worn down will save your disc brakes. Not having it maintained can be the start of some expensive repairs.  Follow this and you will save money.

Important Brake Maintenance Tips

One of the things we take for granted in this world is driving a car.It has become almost like a routine and a mindless activity for some people. You see people everywhere taking on the phone, reading, even doing makeup, etc. while driving.

But if your put some thought into it, you will realize that your life is on the line everytime you step into a car.  Whether it is someone else’s fault or yours, accidents do happen.

One cause of accidents, although seldom does it happen, is brakes failing.Your brakes qualifies as one of the critical parts of your vehicle.  Unfortunately, out of sight is out of mind.  I have seen this firsthand with my San Diego brakes shop.

Your brakes definitely qualifies as out of sight.  But it is one part of your car that you need to keep regular maintenance on.  Whether you do it yourself, or hire a San Diego auto repair shop, you have to maintain it.After all, the safety of your life and maybe your family’s life could depend on it.

With that being the case, it will be relatively easy to maintain your brakes.  You can either go to a brake repair shop or you can learn how to do it yourself.

Either way, the two things to look at for brake maintenance is brake fluid level and brake pad condition. If you follow these two points vigilantly, you will ensure your brakes are safe.

When you go to check the brake fluid level, all you are going to have to do is check the fluid reservoir level.  It is usually marked and has a ‘min’ line and a ‘max’ line.  Make sure it isn’t below the ‘min’ line and you should have no problems.

Also make sure the brake fluid is clear or yellow in color. If it isn’t, you will have to perform a flushing of the brakes and put in new fluid.

Brake fluids are easy to maintain. The difficult part is maintaining your brake pads.  For this, more often than not you will need a brakes repair company like my San Diego brake shop.

Usually the brake pads tell you they need to be replaced when you hear some screeching sounds when you are braking.

If so, have them checked and replaced as soon as possible. Worn brake pads make it difficult to control to a stop.

With your safety and any passengers safety on the line, this is a no brainer. Get it checked and if you have to, go and get your brakes fixed.

Taking and following these 2 maintenance tips will help make sure your car is safe for all driving occasions.

Tricks to passing a Smog Test

In our day and age, the automobile is one of life’s necessities right up there with food and shelter.  And with our current economy, most people are keeping their cars longer.

Well when you find this happening and your car is older, it will be time to learn some things in regards to car maintenance.  I have learned them from owning a San Diego Smog Check shop

One of those things is the time your car needs a smog test. Until the day your car turns seven years old, you will find a lot of people don’t even think about it.

But beware, if you fail the smog test, what could of been a simple $50 smog test could suddenly become a $300-$400 repair.

When you need your vehicle to pass a smog test so you can renew your vehicle registration, here are some tips you can take so your inexpensive smog test, can pass with flying colors.

So before you visit a smog test San Diego only center follow these tips.

First, make every effort to ensure your vehicle is running right.  If you feel the vehicle is not running right, immediately take it to a auto repair shop and have them find out what is wrong. Then have it fixed before your smog test.

Second, an easy but necessary tip, take a drive.  Remember to pass the smog test, your vehicle needs to be efficient at burning fuel with as little smog emmissions as possible. When you don’t take the time to warm up the car, these causes the car not to have the correct combustion. If that does happen, you have a high chance of failing.Just drive it for a few miles, 10-15, and you will have it running as optimally as possible when you bring it in.

Third, start using fuel additives.  You do this whenever you fill your car up with gas.You just put it into the gas tank.  What this does is it helps lowers emmission levels by cleaning your car’s intake and exhaust paths.  This allows the fuel and air to flow freely.

Fourth, your tires need to be inflated to the proper pressure.  This little tip will help your vehicle drive with greater stability and accuracy during the smog test. The overall emmissions improves in output because the engine is able to maintain a steady load.

Finallly, get an oil change. If the oil in your car does need to be changed and is contaminated, this can be a cause of failure when you take it for a smog test. Contaminated oils are high in hydrocarbons and that could cause the failed test.

Follow these simple tips and you will surely pass your smog test with flying colors.  Take it from my experience running a San Diego auto repair service shop.
