Drilling ANWaR is a touchy subject.  People are passionate on both sides of the issue.  They enjoy expressing themselves about it.

President Carter was responsible for giving ANWaR protective status.  But he also stipulated that drilling could take place if Congress gave the OK.  That approval is the modern issue that follows every Congressman at election time.

One man is very much against drilling ANWaR.  We need places like ANWaR in this country.  Don’t ruin it.

Other people are all for drilling ANWaR.  They don’t believe drilling will destroy the environment.  One of them wrote:  The world won’t stop spinning if we drill ANWaR.  Like animals in other places the caribou will find a way.

Those cuckoo birds never found a way.  Maybe oil could have helped them avoid extinction.

Recently Senator John McCain discussed allowing drilling ANWaR while he ran for President.  He said there are safe and clean ways to reach the oil there.  He said it would be limited to a small area.  It should be tried.

An answer to that is John McCain lost two bids for President for good reason. But now that he’s back to work in the Senate, he can vote for drilling ANWaR.

There’s often anger over drilling ANWaR.  Let me come look around your home.  You may not understand what I want, but I found something in front of the stairs that lead upstairs to the bedrooms.  Now I set up drilling equipment there.  Go find an apartment, because you won’t be able to get to the bedroom.

But people aren’t animals and the wilderness isn’t a house.

More oil is needed each day – it’s a fact that drives this issue.  Drilling ANWaR or not is a question many people have to answer.  What’s your take?

The arguments over Alaskan oil drilling have heated up in the last few years.  People debate it in nearly every election in the United States.  Here are some of the comments readers have made about it.

Environmentalists just say no to Alaskan oil drilling.  One commented:  I can’t believe this is even an issue.  Areas of Alaska are the last untouched wilderness we have.  What will people do when it’s gone?  If we wreck it, it will become a memory.  Let’s keep one place like it was before man stepped in and ruined things.

A reply to that is as follows.  Drop it already.  At worst we could make the Earth uninhabitable for people, but we aren’t even doing that.  This planet has been around for billions of years.  Stuff a sock in it.

A pro drilling person made a comment.  We’re only wanting to drill a tiny part of Alaska.  It will result in a lot more oil for everyone.  Alaskan oil drilling is a must.

A reply to her is:  Let’s stop this drilling for the children.  If everyone wears a windmill on their head, we won’t need any more oil.

Not everyone who hates Alaskan oil drilling knows the facts.  One of them said:  People are pigs.  We use and use and we just don’t care.  Everyone stop using oil right now, put the oil companies out of business.

Yet that person typed their opinion on a computer.  The computer case, and many of the components are plastic.  That’s petroleum based.  That’s oil.  See what we mean?

Not all the pro Alaskan oil drilling people are geniuses:  I intend to use more oil.  I’ll bathe in it.  Let’s bathe malibou in oil.
