The Dominance of the Internet in News Spreading

Behind the Citizen Journalism Revolution

The recent disasters that devastated some Indian Ocean countries, the Philippines, Vietnam, China and some others have demonstrated absolutely what the Internet can achieve in making the world tell of similar events. Even if there are television stations and channels associated worldwide that convey news to the many homes of the world, on the more personal level the Internet is more efficient and comprehensive. It can reveal the panorama of damage, the heartrending stories and the courage of some in manners that ordinary news structures are helpless of, or at least are not set to.

Take for example the deluge that filled the cities and nearby communities of Manila, Philippines. Through the Internet, involved Internet-familiar persons sent out emergency information of any locations including pictures and short videotapes, pleas for quick and more extended help, and the things people invent to handle or respond to the emergency they must cope with. Lots of these video vignettes or digital snapshots were transmitted electronically —read via the Internet— to news and television channels coordinating rescue or aid undertakings. The sent petitions were in turn forwarded to those heading the operations resulting in many people being retrieved just in the nick of time.

In making use of the Internet, the people applied the more popular social media sites, uploading the pictures and videos in their own places and those of the TV networks. Thus the electronic videos were at once received by many of those concerned, and, in the instance of the networks, broadcast at once. The public was apprised of the occurrences simply a little time after these developments occurred and thus many were aware how large the calamity was. Hence the effects were tremendous responses from other people and even those who were distressed, if just slightly, by the floods. Overseas Filipinos from all places also helped, often unnamed.

This event and related ones that happened recently are simply illustrations on the manner the Internet news varieties and arrangements revolutionized and are changing the world and societies in general. Its penetration of the long ago ‘Bamboo Curtain’ —or Communist China— made possible for the populace of that country to behold what is taking place in the everywhere else so that, experts say, it pressured the leadership to create some controlled capitalism there, besides Hong Kong. Nowadays millions of mainland Chinese (as recognized apart from overseas Chinese), particularly the youth, are using the Internet and very much onto the events in the world.

The creation of the Internet can be considered one of the best and basic occurrences that concerned the world, same with the creation of the wheel, numbers and maybe the telephone. This is because the Internet permitted instant world communications for everyone without very big spending and trouble. The spreading of personal knowledge is these days more rapid and more comprehensive via the social sites –Web2.0— in addition to the prior electronic mail technologies or Web 1.0. The same can be judged about sales, called Internet promotion, done by Internet entrepreneurs.

At any rate, the Internet has amended the manner people interact with others in society. It has brought people closer, if not physically at least virtually, setting off with news about each other.

Sharing Encouraging Words

February 15th, 2010 |

In life there are a lot of reasons why we may need some free encouragement quotes. As much as there are awewsome times in life there are also some dissapointing times that we can not just ignore. If you don’t know what to say on what occasion especially in terms of bible scripture for encouragement then why not read below for some few examples.

The Loss of a loved one

A person who has just lost a loved one needs to be encouraged and supported. They need to be told everything is okay and the person who has died will live forever in their memories. Do not over do it. Find the right things to do and words to say.

Grieving people go through various phases of grief and you need to be sensitive to understand the grieving process and what words to say at each stage.

A person who is just starting a new job

It can get very intimidating to move in to a new workplace especially if it is not what you have done before. If you know someone who has just started in a new job then you better think of something to do or say. If the friend enjoys a good laugh, just write him or her some poems that give encouragement about the first day at work.

A person who has just moved into a new country

Being in a foreign country can be so frustrating especially if you can not understand the local language. One of the predominant feelings are anxiety and being home sick. I know someone who fell into a serious depression a few days after arriving in a new country – to stay for 12 months. It took two months for the person to recover and start accepting her new environment.

Other people who need to be encouraged from time to time include, married couples, someone who is sick and probably in hospital and people locked up in prison. As you live through each day, keep remembering that someone needs you to speak some few motivational words.

Can You Be Good Without God?

February 10th, 2010 |

In 2002, Five by Two produced a film that was, to say the least, thought provoking. Time Changer is the story of Dr. Russell Carlisle, professor in a Bible Seminary in 1890. It begins as Dr. Carlisle is presenting a manuscript for approval to other staff at the school. But approval is not unanimous. One professor, Dr. Norris Anderson, will not endorse a document that teaches Christian morality without the person of Christ is still effective.

Tension between these two professors grows until Dr. Carlisle accepts the invitation to visit Dr. Anderson at his home. There he is introduced to a time travel machine Dr. Anderson has created and is finally talked into trying it. Immediately he is taken from 1890 to the early 2000’s for a few shocking days of seeing what society is like when morality is taught without theology. Dr. Carlisle is compelled by this experience to rewrite his manuscript upon his return.

When asked what is wrong with society, Alexander Solzhenitsyn answered, “It has forgotten God.” In other words, emphasis on kindness and love and morality is not enough. It only takes one generation to forget why they are acting that way at all. Daniel Boorstin stated, “Trying to plan for the future (conduct) without a sense of the past (foundation of conduct) is like trying to plant cut flowers.” George MacDonald put it another way. “No teacher (including story writers) should strive to make men think as he thinks, but to lead them to the living Truth, to the Master himself, of whom alone they can learn anything.”

To illustrate this, consider an elementary school in the western US that prides itself on teaching character. In fact, the primary character qualities are written in mosaic tile at the entrance, qualities such as honest, diligence, and no put-downs. Daily the fifth grade students recite this in unison: “I am wonderful; I am important; I am worthwhile; I make a difference; I am smart; I care about myself; I smile a lot; I am brave; I am successful; I am confident; I am strong inside; I can say No; I keep trying; I am a precious worthwhile mistake-making person.” This is a public school so, of course, God is left out. What does this list mean without Christ at the foundation? Will reciting it daily convince a student it is true? Now add the Person of Jesus Christ. ‘In Christ I can make a difference. In Christ I am precious to God. In Christ I have strength to continue.’ See the difference?

Teaching character without God is similar to the story of seven tailors who wove the invisible clothes for the king. Only the wise saw the clothes so no one would admit they didn’t. On the day of the presentation, everyone spoke of the magnificent wardrobe until a small boy yelled, “The king is naked.”

Without God character is also naked of the foundation on which it must stand. Without that foundation, it can do nothing but collapse. The next generation will say, “Why should we act that way?” There is no reason. Ultimately, the motive for doing right must be to please God.

The author of this article has tried to remedy this situation by writing stories that teach character building with a clear foundation. There are also several biographies he has written which are available online, including people such as Florence Nightingale and Peter Cartwright.
