Useful German Phrases To Party With Germans

Most likely the Germans are not the first nation that comes to mind when talking about party people. The German stereotype is more the workaholic who perhaps takes himself a little too seriously. I still haven’t figured out how the Germans managed to fool the world into believing that they are so conscientious about their work. The fact is that not only do the German’s have a very short working week, but they also enjoy some of the longest holidays in Europe. That’s why meeting Germans on holidays abroad is almost inevitable because the Germans have so many holidays. These days more than ever you’ll find that Germans prioritize time with friends and family above the prestige of a high earning job.

When they’re not working, it’s true that many Germans love watching football and when their team wins, you can be sure that the Germans party hard and long accompanied by friends and their favorite beer. You might be surprised to discover that the Germans have an incredibly rich variety of funny German words and phrases to talk about partying because it’s such a popular activity. A fun example is the German expression “die Sau rauslassen” (lit. to let the pig out), which means to paint the town red. I think you’ll agree that this popular german phrase is wonderfully descriptive and is a great way to describe mayhem in bars and on the streets when the national football team wins important international matches.  Other useful German words to describe a tremendous party atmosphere is “eine Bombenstimmung” (lit. a bomb atmosphere) and “das Remmidemmi” which is pure mayhem and commotion.

Although almost any excuse will do, more than anything else it’s football victories that trigger the most intense and drawn out celebrations. The Germans celebrate well into the wee hours or in German “Sie feiern bis in die Puppen”. So the next time you’re on the lookout for a party holiday destination, I can highly recommend visiting Germany – especially if it’s during the football World Cup! Also be sure to learn cool German phrases before you head off to impress the locals.
